Abby Humphrey is a native New Englander who came to acupuncture,
as many do, through pain. An injury incurred in her dance career
led her to an acupuncturist in Middletown, CT, where she was
attending Wesleyan University. This experience inspired her in
turn to write a thesis on Chinese Medicine as part of her bachelors
degree work in East Asian Studies.
Further explorations in complementary medicine brought her to the Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy in New York City, where she received a Certificate in Massage Therapy, and eventually to the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (now the TAI Sophia Institute) in Columbia, MD. At TAI, Abby worked with founders Robert Duggan and Dianne Connelly, earning her Masters in Acupuncture and Certification in Chinese Herbal Medicine. She currently has her National Certification with the NCCAOM and her Michigan state Acupuncture Registration and is a member of the MAAOM and the AAAOM.
Upon her completion of her Masters in 1999, Abby moved to Ann Arbor, MI, establishing her practice first at Head to Toe Therapies. In 2001, working with therapist Becky Hackenberg, she co-founded the Center for Sacred Living, a collaborative healing space for practitioners of various modalities. Her practice has resided at the Center ever since. In June of 2012, she also began working at the Hygeia Center for Healing Arts in downtown Ann Arbor.
Life in Ann Arbor, naturally, has brought Abby into the realm of the University of Michigan. She has lectured on Chinese Medicine at the U of M School of Public Health and in the intensive Inteflex program at the Medical School. I addition she has hosted students from the Med School and Public Health at her practice.
Abby has facilitated workshops on Five Element Theory over the years and is currently offering those workshops in partnership with Master Wasentha Young, of the Peaceful Dragon School of Tai Chi Chuan and Chi Kung. Her own professional path has included workshops around the country, including a two year program with Lonny Jarrett in Clinical Integration, multiple courses with Dr. Richard Tan on the Balance Method, fertility studies with Randine Lewis, and The Art and Science of Obstetrics with Raven Lang.
Abby has three daughters, Kaeli Rose, Evangeline and Roxanne. Her husband is a phenomenal middle school teacher. And Abbys found her way back to dancing again in 2009 and is now a bellydancer performing with Unveiled Bellydance of Ann Arbor and teaching bellydance fitness.
She greatly looks forward to this next stage of her career, collaborating with Dr. Amy Saunders and the other practitioners at Integrative Healthcare Providers.
